Week 26- Greatest Movie Moment

# Iconic Cinema Moments
Cinema has evolved into such an intoxicating and influential art form that it is becoming increasingly difficult to comprehend the heights it can reach. Something so vast and immaculate will have innumerable moments that will be etched into our memories for generations to come. The end of ‘Hawking’ is quite memorable. Mark Wahlberg shooting Matt Damon at the end of ‘The Departed’ had redemption written all over it. Or Harvey Dent’s symbolic dialogue, “You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain.” Of course to each individual the magnitude and impact of various scenes may differ. For me, there will always be this one scene I will never forget, from Blood Diamond. Set against a backdrop of Civil War, conflict diamonds resulting in children being forced to take up arms, the suffering shown is indeed tragic. In the midst of this Leo DiCaprio says, “Will God ever forgive us for what we've done to each other? Then I look around and I realise, God left this place a long time ago.”

Anyone you ask now, is running...only to stand still! There is a quest to get ahead... dreams are now, bigger than ever. Some people make their dreams, their life, their sole purpose to live and that in a way is great! But how does the movie of your life look when you actually stand still after all the running to find out that you were so busy running that you didn't even notice who you were running with. How does a movie seem to be with the hero only and not connect with the supporting cast? Do we appreciate such a story-line? Absolutely not. Just for a second, imagine your life as one of those movies and I am sure you will quickly want to come out of your imagination.

Definitely, a movie is a life with all the boring scenes cut but how about your life being one big movie with a more realistic approach?

Personally, my most favorite movie would be 'A Walk to Remember' which was originally a book by one of the greatest romantic author of all times- Nicholas Sparks. The greatest moment in the movie is the end which shouts aloud the message of inspirational love in bold letters. It is absolutely amazing to see love, a very simple emotion transform someone's life to such an extent.

Now coming back to how we are living our lives, I think a movie inspires you, teaches you and moreover, you find a connection and as I said, it is so because life itself is a big movie.
There is huge competition out there; you have to win. Sometimes you have such great ambitions that you forget everyone around you and this is exactly what is happening. And I am absolutely amazed that how easily people give up on things that play an enormous role in making a hit film out of their lives.

But something that restores my faith is that there are still people for whom life is about the little things and even at times if people fail to understand it, they eventually find out and get their priorities straight. This happened when Bunny finally proposed Naina in the end. And yes, you guessed it right, I am referring to Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone in Yeh Jawani Hai Deewani. The story of the movie is very simple like most of our lives, yet it made a deep impact because it focused on the little things in life, starting from how much we take our parents for granted to how less we care about true love.

Even though, we have a person who loves us more than anything, we give up on them because we are too busy chasing our dreams. And even after all our dreams have been achieved, we still don't understand the value of the little things in our life because we are just not ready to compromise on anything. But trust me, what is needed are compromises… life is all about the little compromises. Else you would have nothing but your bank balance on your death-bed.

The movie captures the smaller moments and very gracefully makes them more important than most of life's big events. Take your best friend's wedding for example... which is definitely more important than your business tour. Another heart capturing moment of the movie is the spirit of friendship which very correctly is shown to never change. You are going to be the same person for your friend even after 20 years. Isn't that really amazing?

And most importantly, realizing that true love is most difficult but sadly the most ignored part of life. People wait for years for their love because we crazily believe that if it’s not happy, its not the end and often that is how it is.

Holding on is really difficult and for most of the world, it is crazy. But sometimes holding on is all you can and must do because no matter what, this life is real, true love is real and prince charming or the princess you dreamt of is real. Life may not be a bed of roses, it has never been and so weren't the greatest fairy tales. So believe in a better life… make a better life… chase your goals but don't forget to cherish all the little moments in your run to stand still. And that's when you will get your very own great movie and your greatest movie moment. The greatest moment of your life. Keep loving!

# Hannibal Escapes
"Well Clarice have the lambs, stopped screaming?” these words said by Hannibal Lecter to Clarice Starling over the phone refers to the earlier reference of her waking up during mid-night hearing the screaming of Lambs, being slaughtered-a frightening incident that had taken place in her childhood. She shared this memory with him during the last of the meetings she had with him before he escaped from the prison.

The Silence of the Lambs is regarded as one of the greatest movies ever made and also one of my favourite movies. There are many great scenes in the movie like the meetings between Hannibal and Clarice, Hannibal meeting Senator Martin in Tennessee etc. but the one scene that stands out in the whole movie is the part where Hannibal escapes. Hannibal escapes from a high security prison by killing two guards; he disguise himself as one of the dead guards and dresses the guard in his (Hannibal) clothes before lying down acting dead. The chief of the police immediately orders the injured guard to be taken to the hospital for further treatment, oblivious of the fact that it was Hannibal and not the guard that was lying there. On the way to hospital, he kills the medic who was with him and also the driver of the Ambulance before escaping safely.

The efficacy and planning with which he kills the guards, the presence of mind with which he disguises himself as a guard and lies down pretending dead, the resulting consequence which enables him to escape from the prison safely, all this makes this the most memorable part of the whole movie and makes us watch this scene again and again.

Cinema has been instrumental in portraying the thoughts, feelings and lifestyles of various classes of the society and relates itself to the day to day happenings in and around us. Every movie that is made, is made with a motive, but quite naturally most of them elope the viewer's mind. Although, few of the movie moments leave a long or even lifelong impression on our minds. I can always recall my favourite movie moment, as I was deeply touched by it. The movie ‘Taare Zameen Par' where Darsheel (Ishaan Awasthi) was declared the winner of the Art Mela proving himself better than many, followed by the expressions of Aamir Khan (Ram Shankar Nikumbh) indeed brought tears to my eyes and touched my heart. The reason being, we often become judgmental about people in terms of their academic grounds. Different people possess different talents. We need to nurture them. Metaphorically speaking, if every pencil would have the same color, how monotonous a picture they would make! Thus, every color is required and is equally important to make the world a beautiful picture. The most essential part being the color we possess.

One Response so far.

  1. The most compelling movie moment, for me, was the climax of The Godfather: Part III (1990). Even though the film wasn't as well-received as it's predecessors, Al Pacino was simply too good. At the end of the movie, when his daughter is accidentally killed, one sees all those feelings explode. A wail of desperation, as Michael Corleone lost the very thing he wanted to protect most.
He would have given all his power, all his influence, and all his wealth to just keep her safe. In the end, all he achieved in his life was rendered to nothingness. The moment serves to show that the burden of your sins will always come back to haunt you, and that material possessions count for little when weighed against the well-being of your loved ones.
