Sociotech: Crime Against Women
#1
In the past few months, we have come across
several cases of women being roped by the immature, evil and most obnoxious
souls out there. This has created a sense of insecurity among women throughout
the nation. Now the main question is, “How do we stop this medieval act of
shame?”
Well, my idea could sound simple but would
surely serve its sole purpose of securing a woman from shame. So here we go, we
could provide women with a basic transponder which has capabilities of
transmitting audio as well as location tracing. This device looks like a small
‘Bindi’ right behind the ear which looks like this:
This functionality could be triggered by
pressing the lower fold of the ear and this in turn would inform the police in
real time about a crime in action.
In the meantime, while the police take its
time to reach the scene of crime, the woman could use her ‘U-screamer’, an
ultrasonic sound buzzer that easily complements with any wrist-watch she wears.
Once the U-screamer is triggered i.e. clicked by a button on the wristwatch,
everybody within a 500 m radius would go deaf for some time. Now you may wonder,
what about the woman? Wouldn't she go deaf? For that we've got ‘auto-plugs’
that easily pop into the ears in order to prevent the woman from going deaf.
This could buy the woman some time to escape while rescue is on its way.
The materials used in these devices would
be totally cost-effective as well as be custom made as per the user’s choice.
The devices described by me would be powered by a ‘motion charger’ and a small
solar cell, so there is no room for energy issues. These kits could be provided
at reasonable rates in the market especially when they will be produced in
bulk.
I am sure, once this technology is
implemented no perverted soul out there would ever think on raping a woman of
her dignity.

For molestation- A wristwatch.
Working- We are going to design a wristwatch that will consist of a chip. This chip will consist of:
1. A small recorder
2. A GPS
3. Dialer which will consist of two numbers: i) Police helpline ii) A family member
4. An alarm
When the girl feels unsafe, she will press the button which is on the wristwatch, its presence known only to her.
There will be two stages:
1. When the girl is not sure whether she is safe, she will press the button only once. The recorder and alarm will get activated then.
2. If the girl is truly in danger, she will press the button twice within a span of 15 seconds activating all the components. The girl’s location will be determined by GPS and this information will be given to the two numbers stored in the dialer.
The energy consumption of the entire system is quite low since the chip in the wristwatch is powered by the battery of the wristwatch itself. The watch is light in weight, attractive, water-proof and similar to normal wristwatches.
The watch will cost around Rs. 300 to Rs. 500 based on its design.
